POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT (PBIS)

PBIS is a district supported initiative implemented at Point Vicente to support the improvement of school behavior and academic success. PBIS is a proactive system-wide framework for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments in schools, and ensuring that all students have social skills needed to ensure their success at school and beyond. Behavioral expectations are taught directly, practiced, and reinforced.

Our Schoolwide Expectations:

Be Safe

Be Respectful

Be Responsible

Our staff is trained to guide students as they develop school appropriate behaviors – and also to recognize and reward the positive efforts of students. Staff address minor behaviors first by re-teaching and redirection, referring major problems or chronic behaviors to school administration for intervention. Our PBIS program is aligned with our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, Second Step.

Teaching Expectations

Throughout the school year, students will be taught how to behave according to the expectations. All staff will help students learn what the expectations “look” and “sound” like in every setting during the school day. These lessons will be re-taught and reinforced throughout the school year, and will become a regular part of our instructional program.
