hello parents and welcome to Reading Club my name is River Fay and I am your reading specialist I split my time between Silver Spur and point Vicente elementary schools so to give you a big picture of what reading club will be like this year the purpose of it is to provide targeted teaching and practices in key literacy skills in order for kids to move up faster in their reading levels than they would if they were just working in their classrooms and are groups will take place in person this year I'm happy to share we will be working in small groups during the school day the program that we use for reading intervention is adopted district-wide it's called literacy intervention or lli and it's made by the fountas & Pinnell company tell at a glance level literacy and intervention is as I said group instruction with systematically designed lessons intensive instruction it supports classroom literacy teaching and that I'll be using some of the same terms that your child's teacher uses its fast pace engages readers with appropriately leveled book here are some things that reading intervention is and is not as I said it's small group lessons during the school day at 4 opportunities for Hands-On fun we try to encourage reading at home as well as at school and I'll provide you as parents with book ideas and lots of info on literacy through my website and Google classroom I'll also try to remind you didn't about the the phonics rules and the books that they're currently studying with her classroom teacher so that they can make those connections what reading intervention is not is it will not include homework it won't have assignments that are due or graded and it's not help with specific class work so kids won't be bringing work from their teacher that they need to finish because I have my own curriculum they're just a little bit help me I have been a teacher in pvpusd since 1999 I taught first grade I've also taught reading and math intervention and I do some private classes in reading and chewed and writing as well I Come From A literacy background I have my multiple subject teaching credential and then I went back to school and got my reading specialist credential and a master's in English language arts and as I said I'm at Point Monday Wednesday Friday Silver Spur on Tuesdays Thursdays and the best way to contact me because I am at two different sites is through email they are at pvpusd. I have some resources for you if you go to my edlio cage that addresses here you'll be able to see book list and stuff ideas for how to help your child with reading and we will also be using Google classroom or as just a resource page this year you won't have homework or assignments that your child needs to do on it but I will send information to each group of four Google classroom and you can log on and see lots of virtual libraries and some other online tools that you can use to practice at home so thank you for letting me be a part of your child's learning team I look forward to working with your child and with you this year and please contact me if you have any questions thank you
